Footbath only twice a week with Kling-on Blue Cattle

What is Kling-on Blue® - Long-acting footbath for cattle and sheep

it is a Long-acting footbath for cattle

with a unique patented formulation that clings to the foot and stays there designed specifically for cattle

It contains a UNIQUE COMBINATION of:

  • copper sulphate - for antibacterial activity
  • organic acid - to prevent binding of copper sulphate by organic material
  • zinc sulphate - for healthy hoof horn
  • colloid-former - to give a viscous footbathing solution that coats the foot

CONVENTIONAL FOOTBATHS ARE TIME-CONSUMING
Conventional footbathing solutions are in contact with the foot for only a few minutes. That is why they have to be used so often: three times a week or more.

Such frequent footbathing demands a lot of time and creates a large volume of waste for disposal. Also, some footbathing solutions lose their effectiveness when organic matter such as dung contaminates the footbath.

Retention of Zinc Improved Five-fold

Zinc is important for the production and maintenance of healthy hoof horn. Footbaths containing zinc increase the zinc concentration in hoof horn. But zinc penetrates hoof horn only slowly, at a rate of less than 0.5 mm per hour3. So good penetration depends on retention of zinc on the hoof after footbathing.

Kling-on Blue® Cattle has been shown to increase the concentration of zinc on the hoof more than five-fold, compared with ordinary zinc sulphate solution.

LESS COPPER SULPHATE FOR DISPOSAL
Using a conventional 5% copper-sulphate footbath three times a week requires the disposal of 30 kg of copper sulphate per 100 cows per week. Using Kling-on Blue® Cattle requires the disposal of just 7 kg copper sulphate per 100 cows per week.

Using Kling-on Blue® Cattle reduces the disposal of copper sulphate by 77%.

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE
CATTLE
£7,000 per 100 cows per year or 1 ppl1
is the average cost of infectious lameness in dairy herds. In dairy cows, infectious lameness reduces milk yield, increases the calving interval and increases the average number of inseminations required. Lameness can affect up to 69 % of your herd2.

PERFORMANCE
CATTLE
Kling-on Blue® Cattle once a week is more effective than formalin 6 times a week6.

REGIMES
CATTLE
For cows, use Kling-on Blue® Cattle once a week for typically 8 weeks until an improvement in foot condition is seen, then continue its use once a fortnight.

PREPARATION
To produce a solution that adheres to the feet, Kling-on Blue® Cattle MUST be made up with water using a pressure washer that gives a minimum of 160 bars of water pressure with a delivery rate of 9 litres/minute. Do NOT use a high-volume hose: the pressure will not be adequate.

Pour 45 litres (10 gallons) of water into a 200 litre (45-gallon) drum with half of its lid removed. Insert the lance of a pressure washer into the water and set the washer running. Slowly add the whole contents of the bag of Kling-on Blue® Cattle whilst agitating the water with the lance to mix the product thoroughly into the water. Continue mixing until the volume of water in the drum reaches 200 litres (45 gallons).

APPLICATION
For best results, first walk the animals through a footbath containing water to clean their feet or wash their feet with a hose. Then walk them through a footbath containing the prepared Kling-on Blue® Cattle solution.

IMPORTANT
For cows, ensure 10 cm depth of Kling-on Blue® Cattle solution in the footbath.

FREQUENCY
For cows, use Kling-on Blue® Cattle once a week until an improvement in foot condition is seen, then continue its use once a fortnight.

PACK SIZE
19 kg bag, makes enough solution for a 200 litre footbath. This is sufficient for 100 cows to walk through once.
